Trimethylchlorosilane is a clear, colorless, caustic and highly flammable liquid with a pungent odour. Readily hydrolyzed with liberation of hydrogen chloride; soluble in benzene, ether and perchloroethylene. Chlorotrimethylsilane reacts vigorously and exothermically with water to produce hydrogen chloride.
