The PDO thread is made with Polydioxanone, while the other two are made with polylactic acid (PLA) and polycaprolactone (PCA). Among these three kinds of threads, the PDO thread has the longest usage time. The threads are made of a colorless polyester material that will naturally break down or dissolve about six months after surgery. Once these threads are inserted into the skin, certain cells in the body (fibroblasts) produce more and more collagen (a skin protein responsible for skin elasticity and structure). The loss of collagen is one of the main causes of aging.

Collagen helps support the "growth factors" that affect the condition of our skin. In addition to healing wounds, collagen helps keep our skin strong, plump and supple. As we age, our bodies produce less and less collagen, which directly results in an 80% reduction in skin thickness by around age 70. This loss of volume and strength is an important cause of excessive skin wrinkles. As the skin weakens, it can no longer adequately support the tissue beneath it, which means gravity pulls the skin down and stretches it. When sagging skin is still mild, injecting fresh collagen into the facial skin can help reduce sagging (by thickening and moisturizing the skin) and prevent it from getting worse (by strengthening the skin).
