Indian textiles sector jobs to grow 15% by 2017

The number of jobs in India’s textiles and allied sectors is estimated to rise by about 15 percent by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan.
 
 
At the end of fiscal year 2010-11, there were 105 million people employed in India’s textiles and allied sectors, PTI quoted Textiles Minister Anand Sharma mentioning in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Economic Times reported.
 
 
The Minister was referring to a report on Working Group on Textiles and Jute Industry for the 12th Five Year Plan. He said about 15.81 million new jobs are likely to be created in the textiles and allied industries by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan in 2017, thus increasing the total number of people employed in the sector to 121.2 million.
 
 
Next to agriculture, textiles industry is the second-largest employment generating sector in the country.
