Ford's European Sales Up 12% in March on High German and UK Demand

Ford’s sales in Europe rose by 12% in March, accounting for the 10th  consecutive monthly gain, thanks to high demand for compact SUVs and small vehicles.

Deliveries in the European markets increased by 15,900 cars to 147,100 units, extending the gain in the first quarter to 11% or 297,900 vehicles. Sales in March have been powered by models such as the Kuga SUV, the Fiesta compact and the Transit Custom minibus.

Ford reported a 13% increase in UK to 74,700 vehicles, becoming the automaker’s top market and a 19% increase in Germany to 21,800 vehicles, its second market.

The US automaker had astonishing results in China where sales jumped 28% last month, surpassing 100,000 vehicles for the first time in a single month. Ford is getting closer to the third place among the largest foreign car sellers in China. Last year Ford managed to surpass Honda and Toyota and get closer to sales numbers from Nissan and Hyundai.

Still, the automaker surpassed Hyundai in total March sales for the second consecutive month with a record 103,815 vehicles. Total sales last month increased 45% to almost 272,000 units.

“Our strong sales momentum demonstrates the success of our accelerated China growth plan and puts Ford in a great position as we get ready to showcase our full product lineup at the Beijing Auto Show,” said John Lawler, chairman and CEO of Ford China.
