Chile's producer price index fell by 1.7 percent in December and by 3.3 percent for all of 2014, the National Statistics Institute, or INE, said Friday.

Lower prices in the mining sector were the primary reason for the monthly decline, contributing 2.006 percentage points to the drop, the agency said.

The PPI for the mining sector fell 10.4 percent for all of 2014, with a plunge in copper and molybdenum prices the biggest reason for the sharp decline.

The prices received by producers in the manufacturing industry and the electricity, gas and water distribution sector, meanwhile, were up 0.6 percent and up 1.7 percent, respectively, in December.

The PPI of the manufacturing sector rose 6.4 percent for all of 2014.

Among the products that saw the biggest price increases in December were wood pulp, paper and cardboard (up 2.4 percent), fish products (up 3.7 percent), wine (up 2.2 percent), and printing activities (up 5.1 percent).

Prices received by electricity, gas and water distributors rose 6.9 percent for all of last year.
