Yarn Expo Autumn concluded last month with a record-breaking number of exhibitors and visitors, proving to be the universal business event for the yarn and fibre industry. The show this year welcomed 319 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions, a 24% increase compared to the 2015 edition. It was held in the National Exhibition and Convention Center from 11 – 13 October, with the exhibition space extending 35% to 11,500 sqm, and attracting 11,832 buyers (2015: 7,275).

Ms Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd commented on the expanding show size as well as its popularity among exhibitors and visitors. “The last few years has seen a steady increase in exhibitors and buyers, to the point where the fair is now seen as one of the leading global yarn and fibre trade events. The huge increase in buyers this year is evidence of that, and among other reasons, is a result of the quality and industry-leading exhibitors from both China and abroad that choose to exhibit at Yarn Expo each year.”

Fair proved to be effective platform for exhibitors to develop business with buyers throughout the world

The large increase in visitors this year had many exhibitors praising the fair for its effectiveness in meeting new buyers from around the world. Being one of the highlights of the show, participants in the India Pavilion were satisfied with the show. “This is one of the exclusive yarn fairs in Asia with buyers coming from all over the world. It is definitely helping our business a lot to get new customers and to showcase our products to the world,” said Mr Ravindranathan Narayanasamy, Director of Texprocil, organiser of the India Pavilion. Pavilion member Envision Export Pvt Ltd also achieved a satisfactory outcome. Mr Vibhanshu Bhasin, Manager, commented: “We exhibit here because it is a good platform to develop new customers and to get re-orders from old customers. We met all kinds of professional buyers with concrete enquiries, while there were also some asking for prices. Some of the buyers we met have already placed orders.

Opulent Group of Companies in the Pakistan Zone also affirmed the show’s effectiveness. “It is the place where visitors can find good suppliers, agents and companies with a good reputation. We succeeded in meeting new customers and making new contacts.” As emerging players in the industry, Uzbekistan suppliers maintained their popularity among visitors this year. Quva Tekstil Ltd reported that the fair was useful in gaining new customers. Mr Bahodirkhon Gaziev, Manager of Export & Import Dept said: “We met new customers from China, Poland, Columbia and Iran. Thanks to this exhibition, we are going to have business in new countries.” He also commented that the fair was a good place to gain exposure so as to enhance their brand building.

Exhibitors from other countries shared similar experiences, including ABY from Indonesia which managed to meet serious and professional buyers from Korea, Taiwan, India, Indonesia and Europe, while Korea supplier, A-Joo Industrial Co Ltd was also content with the visitor flow and buyer quality. “We are happy about the visitor flow and their quality. We have met many clients and got to know more about their preferences,” Mr John Lim, Representative said.

Positive feedback about the fair was not limited to overseas suppliers, as it proved beneficial to domestic exhibitors as well. Ms Kong Caizhen, Senior Engineer of Shanghai Different Chemical Fiber Co Ltd claimed that their aims were achieved. “We participated in the fair for several reasons. To showcase our products, to meet new clients and to engage in interaction with business counterparts so as to keep track of the market trends. Basically we reached all these targets onsite.” Repeat exhibitor, Hanzhou Honghai Textile Co Ltd also appreciated the show a lot. “We have been exhibiting for five years and the result has been improving year by year with an increasing number of customers. Not only can we get orders afterwards, but the fair also allows us to demonstrate our corporate image, which makes us more well-known among visitors and enhances our business in the long run,” said Representative, Mr Li Chen.

Newcomers found the show rewarding

Yarn Expo Autumn’s increasing reputation in the yarn and fibre industry ensures that it continues to attract new and quality suppliers from around the world each year. This year, the Birla Pavilion made its debut at the fair, in which 14 exhibitors from China and Indonesia promoted their viscose staple fibres and manmade cellulose fibres. Pavilion organiser, Birla Jingwei Fibres Co Ltd commented on their involvement: “Instead of direct onsite orders, we are aiming to promote our product ideas and brands to a wide range of industry players. This fair can help build our corporate identity so as to create demand for our products. Our objectives have been achieved as we got a lot of contacts from potential customers,” Mr Peter Dong, Marketing & Business Development Senior Manager said. Commenting on the future demand for their products, he is confident that Birla products will be a future trend in China. “Given that the Chinese government is paying much more attention to environmental protection, there is also growing interest in our products. Currently, the China market accounts for 30% of our business and the percentage will rise gradually.”

E & T Viet Nam Co Ltd was another first time exhibitor, with the Vietnamese supplier receiving pleasing feedback from buyers. “We already have buyers who want to place orders and many others will maintain contact with us after the exhibition. For the first time being here, the fair has been very successful for us,” CEO Ms Nguyen Hiep Phuong Trang said. She also commented they would attend next year and would recommend the show to fellow producers in Vietnam.

Comprehensive and quality products fulfilled buyers’ sourcing needs

The expanded show provided buyers with a broader range of sourcing options. One of the fair‘s VIP buyers, Mr Carl He, General Manager, Guangzhou Textiles Holdings Ltd set a high value on the show: "We are interested in Indian and Pakistani companies as their products are of competitive price with good quality. This is the right place to be as we did find several factories which can offer the yarns that we need.” Mr Fawzi Haffar, Managing Director, Lemantech Import & Export Co Ltd from the UK also commented: “This show is a great help for me as it allows me to source the raw materials I need. I have been in touch with a supplier who has factories in Zhejiang and Jiangsu, and will pay a visit afterwards and get to know more about them.” Mr Maciej Szydlik, Import Manager, Martis-Stilon S.A. from Poland shared a similar opinion: “It is a good place to meet most of the industry players, including suppliers, brands and even our counterparts in one place. Not only can I meet a number of Chinese exhibitors, but the overseas suppliers exhibiting here are also fascinating. Basically I got what I want here.”

Mr Ahmed Gohar, Managing Director, Texience Textile Expert from Egypt was impressed by the product variety: “Compared with the other fairs I have been to, Yarn Expo has good quality exhibitors and a comprehensive product range. This is certainly the best sourcing platform in Asia because I can meet a lot of new suppliers and even some of my existing suppliers.” The exhibition was also highly appreciated by Chinese buyers. “The show is trustworthy as the participating brands are competent and with integrity. It’s also convenient for buyers to get information from all sorts of suppliers at once,” Mr Huang Chengxin, Sales Representative of Jiaxing Multicolor Dyeing Co Ltd said.

The next Spring Edition of Yarn Expo will be held from 15 – 17 March 2017, while the Autumn Edition takes place in October 2017. Both fairs will be held in the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai).
