TAIPEI PLAS 2008 - Better Exhibition in a Great Venue
Record-Breaking Scale and Number of Buyers

Taipei, Taiwan Sep. 24, 2008

The five-day TAIPEI PLAS 2008 concluded on September 22nd at the Nangang Exhibition Hall. Organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), this exhibition drew participation from 429 companies who showed their products in 2,466 stalls. These figures represent a 14% and 22% jump from the last time. A total of 15,341 local industry professionals came to view the exhibition, representing a growth of 32.5%. Some 2,342 international visitors attended the exhibition, or a growth of 4.5%, again setting records.

Among the big names that attended TAIPEI PLAS 2008 were Hemingstone, Kung Hsing, Jenn Chong, Hyplas, Ding Kuen, Hua Rong, Chau Chyao, Lung Meng, Apex Dynamics, Worldly, Fong Kee, Victor Taichung, Multiplas, Century Trading, Bosch Rexroth, and Conair. They exhibited multi-color injection molding machines, all-electric injection molding machines, precision micro-injection molding machines and other latest plastics and rubber machinery. Many of the international visitors were amazed at the diversity of the exhibits, as well as the abundant fruits of R&D and product quality. Rajiv Raja of Kenya’s SANPAC Africa, has long heard of Taiwan’s technology. Before he made the trip to Taiwan, he already had a few injection machinery types in mind. Mdhsin of Pakistan’s Lucky Packaging has participated in the exhibition twice before. He found the plastic printer and bag-making machine he wanted. Mdhsin said he was impressed by the reasonable price of Taiwan-made machines and he promised to come again next time. Loh Yee Feei, Chairman of Malaysia’s Gallex Precision Industrial, came to buy the all-electric injection molding machines. He commented that Taiwan’s plastic processing machinery is now at par with Japan-made counterparts, in both quality and technology. Mauro Frangipani of Sabo in Brazil praised Taiwan-made machinery for their quality excellence and stability, while Suriyakant Shah of Kenya’s Blowplast was extremely satisfied with TAITRA’s exhibition planning and services. He commented that Taiwan’s plastics and rubber show is of a higher level than most international plastics shows, including Germany’s K-Plastics and Rubber Exhibition.

TAIPEI PLAS 2008 also set new records in the number of foreign exhibitors. A total of 96 used 236 booths, including Krauss Maffei, Siemens, Harmo, Staubli, Xaloy from Thailand, TSM Control Systems from Ireland, and other famous brands from China, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Germany, Austria, Malaysia, Korea and Indonesia. The exhibitors praised the new Nangang Exhibition Hall. Reinhardt Ruehmer, Asia-Pacific Chriaman of Krauss Maffei, pointed out that the new exhibition hall is spacious and is an excellent place to show products. Staubli’s representative found this year better than in 2006 for its planning and management. Wolfgang Windhager, Product Manager of Keba Austria, said that it’s his first time to join TAIPEI PLAS, and he’s decided to establish a Taiwan branch as the Taipei market is rising in prominence. Representatives of XALOY, Taejin Machinery, Siemens and NIRECO, Staubli and Germany’s Octagon Process Technology were very satisfied with their participation because of the chance to meet many buyers from around the world, including India, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, the Philippines, PRC, Iran, France, Ukraine, Egypt, South Africa and Brazil. Walther Trowel, a German businessman regular in many international plastics shows, praised the exhibition and ranked it together with the K- exhibitions in his own country. The exhibition itself and the quality of items on display have reached the level of major international shows, he said.

To encourage more R&D, the organizers held the Taiwan Plastics & Rubber Machine Awards for Excellence in Research & Innovation. Thirteen awards were given to winning machinery inventions, including Fong Kee’s 90-mm PP Sheet Extrusion Line by Steel Belt System, Fu Chun Hsin’s In-mold Labeling Production Line: AF-200, Chumpower’s All-Electrical Stretch Blow Molding Machine CPSB-LS6000, and Hao Yu’s Mini Six Shuttles Net Woven Circular Loom, among others. The new inventions reflect the latest trends in the industry.

During the exhibition, TAITRA also held the TAIPEI PLAS Procurement Meeting, inviting buyers through its overseas branches to arrange a one-to-one meeting with local manufacturers. A total of 40 big foreign buyers held 198 procurement talks with 58 Taiwan counterparts such as Multiplas, Nan Rong, and Chuan Lih Fa. Among foreign exhibitors who attended the event were major world players such as Canada’s Hamilton Avtec, Drukarnia from Poland, Serix-bis, Waldemar Kitala, Turkey’s Eksim Plastik Makina, LV Technology, Indonesia’s PT Ria Engineering, Megga Tecnologia e Comercio de Maquinas from Brazil, Nam Rung from Thailand, and Italy’s Inglass, IBOPLAST, and IMPIANTI OMS. Deals worth US$31 million were signed for the coming years.

The next TAIPEI PLAS will be held March 5-9, 2010 and organizers are quite positive that achievements made in this year’s event will continue on by then for ever greater and better business potentials.
