SEMICON Japan 2015: Innovation Driving the World of IoT

In December, SEMICON Japan 2015 concluded a successful three-day show with over 60,000 attendees. The “World of IoT” Exhibition and Forum was one of they key highlights

This second year “show-within-a-show” included over 50 exhibitors, an IoT Demonstration Zone (showcasing several new enabling technologies), TechSPOT for exhibitor presentations, and a World of IoT Cafe.  A total of 732 exhibitors (87 new) occupied 1,705 booths at this year’s event.

Key “World of IoT” exhibitors included Tesla Motors, Amazon Web Services, Intel, Siemens, IBM Research, Toshiba Healthcare, Fujitsu Electronics, Alps Electric, Dassault Systems, Hitachi Industrial Products, Rohm, Toyota, JSR Corp., SECOM, NIPPON Electro-sensory Devices, Aruba Networks, and many more!

New for SEMICON Japan 2015 was the addition of the Innovation Village, which showcased 14 start-up companies and an excellent series of start-up pitches. Additional SEMICON Japan 2015 highlights included:

  • Over 200 speakers providing a variety of excellent presentations from companies such as: Google, Qualcomm, Microsoft, Fujitsu, Micron, Renesas, Electronics, Cisco Systems, Nissan Motors, IBM, Intel, TEL, Toshiba, JSR,     KLA-Tencor, TSMC, and Sony
  • A dynamic “College Day” program, which attracted over 500 college students
  • Supplier Search Program (SSP) and DMMR participants from: Advantest, Nikon, Murata Machinery, Renesas Electronics, Texas Instruments and TEL (SSP); Micron and SK hynix (DMMR) and;
  • Several thematic and country pavilions

The SuperTHEATER offered nine keynote forums, all with simultaneous English-Japanese translation, with global top executives. Opening Keynote presenters were:

  • Fujitsu: Masami Yamamoto, chairman and representative director
  • Tata Consultancy Services Japan: Amur S. Lakshminarayanan, president and CEO
  • Rakuten Institute of Technology: Masaya Mori, executive officer and representative

The Semiconductor Executive Forum featured executives from Micron Technologies, Renesas Electronics, and Sony. The SEMI Market Forum offers presentations from IHS Global, VLSI Research, and SEMI. An IT Forum features presenters from Cisco Japan, Google Japan, Microsoft Japan, and Qualcomm.

Platinum sponsors of SEMICON Japan 2015 included Applied Materials, Disco, and Tokyo Electron. Gold sponsors include Advantest, ASE Group, Daihen, Ebara, Hitachi Chemical, Hitachi High-Tech, JSR, Lam Research, Screen Semiconductor Solutions, and Tokyo Seimitsu.

Upcoming 2016 SEMI expositions include: SEMICON Korea (January 27-29), SEMICON China (March 15-17), LED Taiwan (April 13-16), SEMICON Southeast Asia (April 26-28), SEMICON Russia (June 8-9), SEMICON West (July 12-14) and more.  The next SEMICON Japan will be held December 14-16.
